Dental Problems & Definitions:
Burning Mouth Syndrome: A symptom of the mucous cavity giving a sensation of being on fire, excessively heated.
Candidiasis: Overgrowth of yeast.
Canker Sore (aphthous ulcers – aphthous stomatitis): A small, painful ulcer especially of the mouth or a painful shallow ulceration of the oral mucous membranes that has a grayish – white base surrounded by a reddish inflamed area.
 
They are not preceded by a blister and are generally larger than fever blisters. They occur on the movable parts of the mouth such as the tongue, the inside of the cheeks and lips. They usually resemble craters or round, reddish swellings that erupt within a day covered by a thin, white or yellow membrane. The edge is usually a red halo. Size is from 1/8" to 1-1/4 inches.
How to remember – O = outside.
Dry Socket: A tooth in which after tooth extraction a blood clot fails to form or disintegrates without undergoing organization.
Gag Reflex: A reflex contraction of the muscles of the throat caused especially by stimulation (as by touch) of the pharynx.
Halitosis: A condition of having fetid breath (bad breath).
Lichen Planus: A skin disease characterized by an eruption of flat papules.
Neuropathic Pain Conditions
Root Canal: A dental procedure to save a tooth by removing the contents of its root canal and filling the cavity with a protective substance (part of the pulp activity line at the root of the tooth also called a pulp canal.)
Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome: A group of symptoms that may include pain in the temporom and ibular joint, headache, earache, neck, back and shoulder pain usually caused by a dysfunction of the joint or spasm of muscles.
